When Patrick Nolan is on the soccer pitch, the match is free-flowing, and passes are being pinged around; he would rather be nowhere else in the world. Nolan, who plays the attacking midfield position (but can also play the No. 7 and 11), loves when he has the ball at his feet, and his team has their ears pinned back and are going forward into the attacking third. "I love how it feels when I have the ball at my feet," Nolan said. "I feel in control at that moment. It feels so good when passes are connected. It feels like poetry." If it is indeed poetry, consider Nolan to be Walt Whitman, Robert Frost, or T.S. Eliot. He loves being the creator of said poetry. Last week we examined the top keepers in the City of San Francisco, and that list was loaded with excellent talent. For this installment of the SF City series, we move from between the posts to the back line, the players in front of the keeper who keeps her safe. These are some of the top defenders in San Francisco: This article was originally published by PrepSoccer staff writer, Matt Smith, on the PrepSoccer website. The City of San Francisco could pull its resources and create an all-star club team that would compete with most in the nation. Due to the sheer size of the City, and the Bay Area, talent is dispersed all over the club world, with players leaving the inner city to play in Marin, Danville or Mountain View. However, the players are San Francisco residents and attend high school in San Francisco, and it is with keepers from the girls side that we begin our San Francisco City Series. San Francisco Elite Soccer Club continues to help players who play for the club to reach their desired goal, which is to play college soccer. Antonio Camacho is another success story. The former 2003/2004 player recently committed to William Jessup University in Rocklin. The keeper is excited to begin his college career this fall. "What drew me to Jessup was the long waiting opportunity to play at the college level," Camacho said. "It’s always been a dream of mine. To represent a school at the college level is once in a lifetime." |
