Jazer Umanzor does not just want to be good. He wants to be the best. Quite literally, he wants to be the best player in the world. There is a reason he models his game after Lionel Messi, and it's because he wants to surpass perhaps the greatest player of all-time. "When I'm in a game players from other teams tell me that I play like Messi," Umanzor said. "But in the future, I'm trying to be better than Messi." When Umanzor was 5 years old, he started playing soccer and it was the desire to be in a position to play in a packed stadium with his family watching that made him want to pursue this dream. The San Francisco Elite 2007 and 2008 boys teams recently had the experience of a lifetime. Both teams recently traveled across the Atlantic, to picturesque San Sebastian, Spain. Traveling to San Sebastian alone is a special experience, but the two teams also got to play the sport they love, taking part in the Donosti Cup. The tournament had a total of 800 teams from all over the world, across all age levels. For the 2007 and 2008 teams, they played in 60 team tournaments against competition across the globe. Ari Beddoes has been here since the beginning. When the San Francisco Elite Academy's 2005 girls GA team hit the field for the first time, Ari Beddoes was on that team six years ago. The standout keeper followed her sister, Cat Beddoes, to SF Elite as the older played for the 2002 team. Ari has enjoyed her time with SFEA, and perhaps the biggest reason is that the club has always supported female athletes during her time with the club. "I love the opportunity the club has given for girls in San Francisco, as most of the clubs (in San Francisco) aren't even NPL," Beddoes said. "Being in Girls Academy gives all players a much better path to success in the future." This article was written by PrepSoccer staff writer, Matt Smith. San Francisco Elite certainly left its mark on the Manteca Tournament. In a fitting end to the season, the SF Elite 2011 and 2012 boys teams did more than just show well in Manteca at the end of June... they were downright dominant. The 2012 team went undefeated in the tournament, winning all five matches, by a combined score of 31-2. The only close match came in the tournament final against El Camino Real FC of Salinas.

Some people are fortunate enough to realize what they like doing at an early age. Tessa Morris is one of those people. She realized in second grade that she liked playing soccer after playing on a grade school team coached by her dad. She also realized she was good at it, scoring her first hat trick that season. While playing youth soccer for the San Francisco Vikings, she heard about a new 2007 team forming with San Francisco Elite and, along with many of her teammates, went and tried out. And the rest is history. Tessa has been with SF Elite since formation. |
