![]() It was only a few weeks ago that the SFEA 2005 Girls lost a heartbreaking NorCal State Cup championship in the roulette of a penalty shootout. Well, the team, under the guidance of head coach Tom Atencio and the relentless support of a great parent group, has gone on to prove that it's not about how hard you fall, but how quickly you get back up. This past weekend the girls went undefeated across four matches, including beating two ECNL sides and not allowing a goal in their final to matches, to claim the title at the US Club National Cup West Regionals in Davis. The SFEA 2005 Girls now become the first San Francisco youth team to earn their way into the prestigious US Club National Cup Championships to be held July 19-23rd in Commerce City, Colorado at Dick Sporting Goods Park. It's an incredible accomplishment and everyone SFEA would like to congratulate the team, coach, and parents on realizing one of their big goals. The National Cup is US Club Soccer’s cup-based national championship competition open to US Club members. To learn more please see the US Club website at https://www.usclubsoccer.org/national-cup-west-regional The SFEA 2004 Girls NPL team completed a strong weekend of play by claiming the title at the MVLA Tournament held this past weekend. The 2004 Girls squad. led by SFEA Head Coach Tom Atencio, went 4-0 over the weekend and won the final in dramatic fashion on penalty kicks. On the route to the final, the girls defeated West Coast, the San Jose Earthquakes and South San Jose, scoring 10 goals and only conceding 1, before facing off with the top West Coach team in the final.
![]() Three San Francisco Elite Academy have earned advanced licenses so far this year, a fourth coach is close to completing his work, and a fifth coach was just accepted to a highly selective course for this fall. This past week, SFEA head coach Bobby Quinlan (2002 Boys and 2007 Boys DA) earned the prestigious National "A" Youth License and Barry McCabe (Lead Coach for Athletic Development & Injury Prevention) earned his National "B" License. Both coaches competed months of work with repeated classroom and field visits, as well as a long mentorship with a US Soccer coaching educator. Earlier this year, Chris Flanagan (2003 Boys and 2009 Boys) completed his National "B" License as well, meaning SFEA now has six USSF A licensed coaches and 5 USSF B licensed coaches on staff. Head coach Mauricio Diaz DeLeon (2001 Boys and 2008 Boys) is nearing completion of his National "B" License and Abigail Kalschuer (2007 Girls) just learned she has been selected to a National B Course for the fall of 2018. At the San Francisco Elite Academy we are proud of our staff and the professionalism for which they approach their roles as coaches. Congratulations to these coaches on this significant achievement. JANUARY 2019 UPDATE: The San Francisco Elite Academy is please to announce that Abigail Kalscheur has now earned her USSF National B license from the United States Soccer Federation as well. ![]() Congratulations to SFEA head coach Bobby Quinlan on being selected as a NATIONAL FINALIST for the Positive Coaching Alliance's Double Goal Award. Bobby, who leads the SFEA 02 Girls NPL team and our U12 (06/07) US Soccer Development Academy team, is among approximately 25 soccer coaches who were selected from nearly 800 nominated coaches across youth sports. The Double Goal Award recognizes outstanding coaches who have been nominated by their peers for being exceptional at teaching both on the field AND life lessons. Bobby was thankful for the nomination and recognition, saying, "This is an important award for me as it is crucial to my coaching philosophy. I am truly humbled."
