They might be twins and play on the same 2007 Boys Orange team for San Francisco Elite, but they are not the same person or player. They both support Barcelona, with Francisco's favorite player Xavi and Aaron's favorite, Lionel Messi. Still, they don't like being compared to one another, as you would expect and understand. Aaron Garcia is a holding midfielder who also plays central defense. At the same time, his twin brother Francisco Garcia is a central midfielder or attacking midfielder. Aaron attends Wallenberg High School, while Francisco attends Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep. Francisco, the more competitive of the two, likes to at least measure where his development is at compared to Aaron. Last, but certainly not least, in our four-part San Francisco Elite Series, are the keepers. Often times the heartbeat of a team, the vocal leaders and the players who have to step up in the biggest moments, these four keepers are the Elite keepers to keep an eye on this upcoming season. Aidan Dugan | Sacred Hearth Cathedral Prep Dugan is one of the senior members of the club, playing for the 04/05 NPL team at SF Elite and plays at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep in San Francisco for high school. He’s a big keeper, with good strength and the courage to come out for balls or to sacrifice his body by winning a ball in the air. He takes command between the posts and makes quick decisions. He reacts quickly and he can distribute out of the back. This article was originally published by PrepSoccer staff writer, Matt Smith, on the PrepSoccer website. We’ve spent time discussing the San Francisco Elite boys players that garner the headlines by playing in forward positions, banging in goals and gaining glory. We’ve talked about the midfielders, who create, facilitate and distribute. Now it’s time to talk about the players that don’t get as much attention, the ones you do not notice as much when they are doing their job. It’s time to focus on the defenders. Jimmy Aguilar | Hoover Middle | Outside Defender Aguilar plays right back for the 2008 SF Elite team and is very reliable and consistent. He is a player that can add value in a number of ways, starting with being a defense first outside back. This allows him to be in good positions before an attack, resulting in the attacking players having a difficult time getting around him. Going forward, he is good with the ball at his feet and has the ability to help create transition opportunities. After exploring the top forwards in the San Francisco Elite series, we now turn our attention to the middle of the pitch. SF Elite is loaded with talented midfielders who make big impacts for their respective clubs, and these players, who all are either 2007's or 2008's, will get a lot of attention from college recruiters. Isaac Cuellar | Lincoln | Central Midfielder Cuellar, who plays for the SF Elite 2008 boys team, is a box-to-box midfielder. He likes to go forward and looks to have a ball played into him while on the attack, and he is quick, mobile and not afraid to go at defenders. When the ball is going the other way, he works hard to track back and defend. He plays his high school soccer at Lincoln High. There are many great male athletes in the city of San Francisco, and this results in a number of excellent soccer players. In fact, too many to count. With all this athleticism, there is an abundance of great forwards playing soccer in the City proper, and many of them call San Francisco Elite their home. This is the beginning of PrepSoccer’s San Francisco Elite Series, where many of the top players in San Francisco call home. Jason Feng | Freshman | Lowell Feng is a very attack-minded player. He has a nose for goal, and when he gets into the final third, he goes to goal. This doesn’t mean he’s a poacher, who doesn’t work hard all over the pitch as his work rate is phenomenal. He can provide hold up play, can get in behind and provide a lot of goals. He is powerful, very efficient and effective who shows his value on both sides of the ball. He utilizes his athleticism and ability to read the game when he tracks back, pressuring opponents and forcing turnovers. Feng plays for the SF Elite 2008 team for club. |
